Saturday Run/Walk

22 Dec

We will not have practice this Sunday so that everyone can enjoy the holiday with their families. If you are in town this weekend Coach Christy will be leading a run/walk in Marina Del Rey on Saturday. We will be meeting promptly at 8am. There will be no clinics and very few announcements so please be on time.

We will meet in the Dock 52 parking lot on Fiji Way. There is plenty of free parking.

Race drinks and fuel

9 Dec

As Christy mentioned in the nutrition/hydration clinic this past week, it’s a good idea to try out the fuel that will be (hopefully) provided on race day.

Tinkerbell:  9 aid stations serving water and PowerAde and 1 nutrition stop serving Cliff Shots

LA Marathon: 25 aid stations, they’re apparently still negotiating as to what the sports drink will be, but there will be 1 nutrition stop serving Cliff Shot Energy Gels

To reinforce what Christy also mentioned, though, please plan on being self-sufficient and carrying your own PowerGels/Gu/Cliff Shots/nutrition source.  The inaugural Las Vegas Rock ‘n Roll Marathon was just held last week, and they ran out of both water and sports drink on the course.  Those people carrying their own supplies were fine, but a lot of other people were really hurting as a result.  So don’t let that be you!

TNT Coaches Debrief, Week #5

9 Dec

Dear Team,

This Sunday:  8am, Santa Monica Civic Center we do it all again, this time for 5 1/2 miles.  Sounds like a lot, but what you may not realize is most of you have already gone 4 or 5 miles last week.  Totally doable.  The route will be south on the boardwalk through Venice Beach to Washington Street where we turn around.  Shoe clinic after practice.  Route:

Tip o’ the week:  You can find inspiration just about anywhere.  Maybe it’s cranking up a favorite jam, maybe it’s talking to people about what you’re doing with the Team, reading an inspirational novel, it’s everywhere.  Being inspired will help keep you motivated on those cold, dark mornings or as we get busier with the holidays quickly approaching.

Speaking of the holidays, this is a great time to kick up your fundraising.  Some fun holiday ideas might be selling hand-made greeting cards, offering your services to wrap presents in exchange for a donation, selling a cookbook full of recipes of your favorite holiday treats?  Fundraising is not just asking people for money, it’s about creating some excitement, fun, and awareness.  Some of the best charity fundraisers don’t feel at all like fundraisers.  Instead, think about how to get people excited to support you and the cause.
Your inspired coaching staff,
Gary, Ed, Christy and Chip
